DIY Headboard
We have a small bedroom, the bed we had in there was massive and it left no room. I'd always smack the dresser with my hip while trying to squeeze between the bedpost and the dresser on my way to the bathroom and every morning it ticked me off! I told my hubby about a cheap headboard we should try. We sat on it for awhile then one day I decided i'm just going to sell our bed then we have no choice! So I posted that sucker and within an hour it was sold. Whoop!
Upholstered headboard to the rescue! I found all the materials
-Cheapest piece of MDF board I could find and had lowes cut it. 18.99
-Thick batting at walmart. 12.00
-Painters drop cloth for the material. 9.99
-Nailhead trim 14.00 (use a coupon for this)
-Staple gun
-Jigsaw
It was so easy to do, we picked a design to cut with a jigsaw, for this I got my sweet hubby to be the brains behind it. I know me, if I wouldve tried it, it's wouldve been an uneven mess!
After that we brought it inside wrapped with batting and stapled the crap out of it, trimmed the access (we doubled the batting so it was a little softer)
Then wrap with the drop cloth and staple staple staple!
Nailhead trim kit. I was dreading this part but it was the easiest out of all of the steps. All in all we finished it within an hour and I absolutely LOVE IT. I kept it cheap and easy. You could add foam and legs and all these extra steps but plain and simple I just didn't want to. I saw no need for it and you know what..foam is expensive! If you decide you need foam, don't buy it at JoAnns just go to walmart/Target and get an egg crate and use that. Trust me.
Here's my finished project!!
If you remember one of my posts it was about my bedroom makeover--you'll see I have bought the bedspread (thanks to having a garage sale I made enough money for that and to buy everything for the headboard) I also bought the anniversary date pillow, if you are interested in one, let me know! I'll send you her way. I still have to paint my nightstands and get throw pillows and a new throw blanket but hey 3 out of the list isn't bad!!
Happy Thursday you guys!
