A Weekend Laundry Room Make Over on A Budget!

After my last post for my laundry room, I was really inspired. It didn't take too long and a few hiccups and the room was finished. I absolutely LOVE it. I also love that I did it all for about 130.00 (including wasting about 30 dollars on paint...i'm still a little bitter about this.)
I was really hoping to complete this project for around 100 bucks. I think I would've been able to do that had I not first of all, bought only a quart of paint--which only got me about one walls worth of painting. So, instead of going back to town I went to the little hardware store in my town, super, super sweet and helpful man working there. However, they didn't have my paint color so we just picked one close to it, I thought 'ehh how bad could it be (there went another 15 bucks) I got home got as much of it painted as I could and let it dry then my husband walks in and says..."babe...you know these two paints are completely different finishes right?" you've got to be kidding me!! SO long story short not only did we have to end up making the 30 minute drive to town we had to spend another 25 dollars on paint. Moral of the story here?? BUY THE GALLON OF PAINT THE FIRST TIME!! Would have saved me a lot of time and money. I'm also no longer allowed to purchase the paint for this house haha!

So here are the before pictures--

Not bad by any means but certainly void of any character or my touch. If you remember in my post earlier I had a very clear vision as to what I wanted. I called it vintage, with a smidge of Sally Owen's shop from Practical Magic and just a touch of farmhouse. I think I captured it pretty well. I have to wait until tomorrow to get my botanical prints put up so once I do that i'll add them to this!

What we did:

Paint

I love my door, I get so many compliments on it when people come over it's the first thing the comment on. The wreath was a fun little project Sam and I did, i'd cut the greenery off a bush in our backyard and he'd stick them on there and tell me "pretty flowers, mom" haha! I, of course had to go in there and fix them but just the fact that he helped makes it one of my favorite things about the makeover.

 

 I got this cute little glass and wooden container/idk what it is?? For THREE DOLLARS yall. 3 bucks at Hobby Lobby. Someone mis marked it on a few of them. Therefore they honored that price! Score!

 

 I just finished doing everyone's laundry and everyone's bedding in my beautiful new laundry room--I loved every second of it.

Laundry Room Inspiration

There's nothing "wrong" with our laundry room, but to say it's not really my style would be putting it mildly. I guess, really it has no set style. It's just kind of there.
After a bit of a long day with Sam and a lot of pinteresting I found a sample paint in the closet from another room I had painted and thought, "'ehh..maybe I'll just see if I like this in there" before I knew it I had cut in the room. I, obviously didn't have enough paint to finish it but just cutting it in at least felt like I was doing something to change it. It may stay like this for a week or so, but I do have big plans for it, I do! Here's what I've come up with from pinterest. I'm wanting vintage, with a little bit of Sally's shop from Practical Magic with just a small touch of farmhouse(probably in the sense of baskets)...follow all that? Me either, but it's exactly what i'm picturing.

Here she is in the before-because we all love a good before picture. All I've done thus far is have my husband add that beautiful old sliding door for me. However, the door actually in the room will have to be replaced, the previous owners want it because it's filled with their kiddos heights marked in to it. I get it, it's special and we would love for them to get to keep that. Plus, it means I can put more o my own touch on it. Hopefully I can find some ideas. Maybe a vintage screen door? That'd be a good kick to always keep that little pantry/coat closet clean.

 

After spending the evening cutting it in. I will be taking down that white shelf, I just couldn't by myself. Honey do list...it's growing.

The color i'm using is Sea Salt--it says it's a color Chip and Jo use, Now...I don't know if that's true but it's a good enough reason for me to give it a whirl.

I'm wanting these beauties framed and hung. I'm obsessed with them. A pretty wooden frame..I can not wait. (all of these pictures are off of pinterest)

A few décor ideas

I'll replace the white shelves with a good stained wooden one with brackets. I'm pretty sure hobby lobby or Lowes has some good ones. We bought some a few years ago for another shelf I had made in our other house.

I can make this sign fairly easy with my Cameo..i'm really hoping I can do all of this on the cheap.

 

How cute I this idea? My husband is always bugging me about losing socks.

We have an old freezer in the room, how cute would it be to add trim and bead board to it? I love the idea, we will see how it goes trying to talk the guy that'll have to do the work in to it though!!

I don't know how much use an herb garden would be in there, but isn't it adorable?!

 

 

 

 

I'm so anxious to get started on it once I get the paint done. I think I can manage to do it fairly cheap. It is garage sale season, after all! I can't wait to show you an after picture!
